Aunque las protestas ya hace cuatro a�os que se iniciaron, el pasado s�bado, coincidiendo con el d�a de San Valent�n, en las barricadas levantadas por manifestantes por todo el pa�s comenzaron a aparecer ositos de peluche colocados frente a frente a los polic�as antidisturbios. En las protestas en Bahrain, el d�a de San Valent�n tiene un significado especial: fue el 14 de febrero del 2011 cuando miles de habitantes de esa petromonarqu�a salieron a las calles en demanda de m�s democracia, en unas protestas que fueron brutalmente aplastadas por las autoridades. Las protestas, siguiendo el patr�n de la primavera �rabe, se iniciaron con una petici�n de mayores libertades y de un trato igualitario para la comunidad chi� de Bahrein, marginada por la �lite sunn�. Poco despu�s, derivaron en la exigencia del derrocamiento del rey Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. Este a�o, los manifestantes celebraron el aniversario de la protestas convocando una huelga de tres d�as y colocando en las barricadas a esos mu�ecos infantiles. Los manifestantes jugaban con la met�fora de que si los ositos de pelucha ayudan a los ni�os a combatir el miedo a los monstruos nocturnos a los j�venes les ayudar�an a vencer el temor a la represi�n policial. Para el diario online 'Bahrain Mirror', un medio opositor, esos ositos "son un icono pol�tico para llevar a cabo una s�tira" de la represi�n.
