Era un momento clave de la Transici&oacute;n despu&eacute;s de que los socialistas fueran derrotados por Adolfo Su&aacute;rez en las elecciones generales del 1 de marzo cuando cre&iacute;an tener la victoria al alcance, aunque se resarcieron en parte en abril, en los primeros comicios municipales de la democracia, al tomar el bast&oacute;n de mando de muchos ayuntamientos gracias a sus acuerdos con el PCE. Fue tras esas elecciones cuando Gonz&aacute;lez consider&oacute; llegado el momento de dar la batalla interna por la socialdemocracia y recuperar su propuesta de meses atr&aacute;s de eliminar las referencias a Marx de los principios ideol&oacute;gicos del PSOE que hab&iacute;an sido incorporadas por vez primera en la historia del partido tres a&ntilde;os antes. Se trataba de preparar el terreno para echar las redes en caladeros de votos m&aacute;s centristas. Pero no lo tuvo f&aacute;cil, porque desde el inicio del Congreso los contrarios a esa idea se hicieron fuertes y empezaron a ganar algunas batallas. Tras su dimisi&oacute;n la soluci&oacute;n fue nombrar una comisi&oacute;n gestora que convoc&oacute; un Congreso extraordinario para el 28 de septiembre. En esos cuatro meses hubo una batalla ideol&oacute;gica y una pura lucha por el poder del partido.Felipe Gonz&aacute;lez gan&oacute; las dos.
