La investigación se sostiene sobre nueve momentos informativos que jalonan esta década. Dichos momentos han sido elegidos en función del espacio concedido, la ruptura con el comportamiento periodístico anterior, y la transcendencia del hecho informado. Se procede a través del análisis cualitativo y cuantitativo de los textos, principalmente en tres diarios, ""El Correo Español. El Pueblo ""Vasco"", ""ABC"", y ""La Vanguardia Española"", al descubrimiento del discurso utilizado y a la comprobación de la hipótesis fundamental: La manipulación desde el poder político de la información sobre ETA con el objetivo frustrado del reforzamiento y supervivencia de éste. Las conclusiones configuran tres fases a lo largo del periodo: I- La manipulación informativa sobre ETA la erige en adversario en un ejercicio de difamación de la realidad. II- Constituida en adversario real se la privilegia como tema informativo. III- El poder político silencia a la prensa en septiembre de 1975 ante las consecuencias generadas por ETA, constituida en una importante amenaza.
