Para ello se ha tomado como unidad de análisis la ciudad de Lleida, y como marco temporal las cinco décadas que van del comienzo de la guerra civil a la actualidad. se parte de considerar la juventud no como una condición natural, sino como una construcción cultura, cambiante en el tiempo y en el espacio, fruto de la intersección de un conjunto de condiciones sociales, y de determinadas imágenes culturales, históricamente plural de las generaciones, los géneros y las clases, aparecen como la metáfora de los procesos de transición social que ha afectado a nuestra sociedad en las ultimas décadas, y reflejan las formas de ejercicio de la hegemonía cultura, y las reacciones que esta suscita. La metodología utilizada se ha basado en una aproximación autobiográfica: se han recogido, transcrito, analizado y montado un total de 110 historias de vida de hombres y mujeres de diversas generaciones y clases. Las fuentes orales han sido contrastadas con el uso de fuentes estadísticas, hemerográficas, fotográficas y documentales. el resultado de la investigación es una crónica de la historia de la juventud local a través de la memoria oral, centrada en la construcción social de los tiempos y los espacios juveniles, que concluye con una lectura transversal de las historias de vida, que hace hincapié en las imágenes generacionales como discursos simbólicos en torno a la identidad. el trabajo consta de 1200 páginas, distribuidas en dos volúmenes de texto y un tercero de apéndices.
