Cada uno de los delegados de los partidos de centro quiere ganarse los favores del delegado del PSOE en la zona. Los políticos de centro intentan comprar al socialista Nicolás Valle, que tiene una situación económica poco boyante, y cuya novia, que le anima a venderse, apremia para casarse. El conde le ofrece ser su asesor con un sueldo de 150000 pesetas al mes, el independiente y administrador del conde le paga por adelantado cur0sos del carnet de conducir, el democristiano un piso, el socialdemócrata muebles.. Curioso el caso de este último, que afirma que lo es sólo desde que murió Franco… seguramente una velada crítica a la trayectoria de Fernández Ordóñez. El mercado persa en que se convierten los pactos electorales también fue tratado por Ozores en No hija no. Mientras, el político de AP, que preside la junta del casino y siemr0pe va ataviado con tirantes rojigualdas, pretende hacer una coalición de gran derecha frente a los socialistas, pero los otros no le hacen caso. El liberal, que dirige un concesionario, avisa a Nicolás la razón por la que todos se le disputan. Ante el rumor de que Felipe González juega a la petanca, todos se suman a la afición. Ramiro, viendo que su mujer es pretendida por el socialista, no duda en ofrecérsela. Nicolás acaba sucumbiendo y se lía con la mujer de Ramiro. Mientras su madre y su compañero de partido Bermejo le echan en cara sus traiciones a los principios socialistas de sus antepasados. Nicolás también está disgustado por las exigencias de la sociedad actual, donde no eres nada si no tiene televisión, coche, chalet… Decide prometer a cada uno de ellos un pacto, para luego decir que la central de su partido no le ha autorizado a ello. El final constituye un homenaje a Bienvenido Mr:. Marshall, con una visita de Felipe González que pasa de largo, cosa que atribuyen a los recién llegado sondeos, que dicen que no ganarán los socialistas, con lo que ganará AP, por lo que todos empiezan a congraciarse con el candidato de ese partido, abandonando a Nicolás. Mientras, el conde afirma que eso lo ha visto en una película de Berlanga. Aquí es donde se muestra mejor la \"filosofía política\" ejercida en la \"comedia democrática\" de Ozores, con su típica identificación con el \"currante\" hispano, y el sentido común escéptico ante los cuernos de abundancia prometidos. Cuando la comitiva socialista pasa a gran velocidad por las calles engalanadas, José Sacristán comenta: - ¿Sabéis para qué sirve todo esto? Aquí todo era un error, por uno que leía prensa francesa. De todos modos no se les quita el miedo, sobre todo al conde, que teme que le expropien las tierras. El democristiano tiene un primo que evade divisas a Suiza.
