Este 15 de marzo se cumplen seis años del comienzo de la guerra en Siria, que se inició con manifestaciones contra el régimen de Bachar al Asad en el marco de la \"primavera árabe\".

Según la ONU, uno de cada 100 habitantes de Siria ha perdido la vida: casi 400.000 muertos. Se trata del peor conflicto bélico desde el fin de la II Guerra Mundial, según Zeid Ra'ad al Hussein, alto comisionado de Naciones Unidas para los Derechos Humanos.

Cuando hace poco menos de un mes Mohamed Bouazizi, un parado tunecino de 26 años, se inmolaba después de que la Policía le confiscara el carrito con la fruta que vendía para sobrevivir, nadie podía imaginar que se iniciaría una oleada de protestas que provocaría la salida precipitada del país de poder de Zine el Abidine Ben Alí, el hombre que ha gobernado Túnez con mano de hierro durante 23 años.

Ben Alíha abandonado el país en avión con rumbo a un punto desconocido del norte -ya ha sobrevolado el espacio aéreo de Malta sobre las 20:00 horas, según ha confirmado un portavoz del gobierno maltés- al ser incapaz de controlar las protestas que, como un tsunami silencioso, han ido creciendo hasta sumir a uno de los puntos más estables del Magreb en el caos político.

De las ciudades de las provincias empobrecidas del sur a los estudiantes y jóvenes de la capital hasta llegar incluso a los grandes balnearios turíssticos, todo el país se ha levantado por el alto desempleo y la subida de los precios de los alimentos sin que el Gobierno haya podido hacer nada para controlarlo.

El rumbo de Ben Alí

De hecho, hasta el último momento el presidente ha tratado de calmar las manifestaciones cesando primero al ministro de Interior, anunciando luego su renuncia a la reelección y cesando al gobierno esta misma tarde.

Finalmente ha tenido que marcharse y parece que su destino podría ser Francia. Aunque el Gobierno francés no confirma que se dirija a París y ha negado que haya habido petición alguna de asilo, la Policía le espera en un aeropuerto cercano a París.

El lugar de Ben Alí ha sido ocupado por el primer ministro, Mohamed Ganuchi, que ha declarado que el jefe de estado \"es incapaz temporalmente de asumir sus deberes\".
\r\n
\"Conforme al artículo 56 de la Constitución, asumo a partir de este instante el cargo de presidente interino\", ha anunciado el primer ministro, de 69 años, que ha subrayado que estará en el poder hasta que se convoquen elecciones anticipadas.

Compromiso constitucional

El primer ministro es un hombre de confianza de Ben Alí, que ascendió con él al poder cuando éste se alzó contra el anterior presidente y le declaró incapaz en el año 87 cuando él era, paradójicamente, primer ministro.

Tras ocupar varios cargos de confianza se convirtió en su primer ministro en 1999. En los últimos días ha tenido un perfil público muy acentuado, anunciando el cese del ministro del Interior y tratando de defender ante los medios internacionales la forma en la que han gestionado la crisis.

Sin embargo, Ganuchi ha asumido la Presidencia interina con importantes dudas sobre quién tiene en realidad el control de un país que se encuentra en estado de excepción y toque de queda y tiene cerrado el espacio aéreo.

Por su parte, representantes de los principales partidos políticos de la oposición tunecina han pedido desde París un Gobierno provisional de tres meses, tal y como fija la Constitución de ese país.

Hasta la entrada en vigor del decreto, los enfrentamientos se habían recrudecido en el centro de la capital.

Y es que, a pesar de que la noche del jueves Ben Alí anunció que no repetiría como candidato en las Presidenciales de 2014, en las calles continuaron las protestas y, según fuentes hospitalarias, al menos 13 personas murieron en las últimas horas a manos de la Policía.

Eran los últimos que engrosaban una cifra de muertos en los enfrentamientos entre los manifestantes y la Policía que sigue siendo confusa. Mientras el Gobierno no reconoce más de 30, sindicatos y organizaciones de derechos humanos elevan la cifra de víctimas mortales a más de 70.
