El 17 de diciembre de 2010, en Sidi Bouzid, al sur de Túnez, la policía local confisca la carreta a un joven vendedor ambulante. En un gesto de protesta contra las humillaciones y la corrupción, Mohammed Bouazizi se prende fuego. El sacrificio provoca disturbios que se extienden por Túnez y el régimen despótico que parecía indestructible se desestabiliza en tan solo tres semanas.

La Primavera Árabe acaba de comenzar. Las dictaduras son derrocadas en Egipto, Libia, Marruecos, Baréin, Yemen y Siria, países que no logran escapar de las juventudes que luchan por defender sus derechos.

Canciones para la 'primavera árabe'

La música se ha convertido en otro potente propagador de las revueltas, desde Túnez hasta Egipto, Libia o Siria.

\r\n

¿Cuantas revoluciones tienen una canción asociada? Ahora que pasó el 25 de abril, un ejemplo claro es la Revolución de los Claveles portuguesa. Cada vez que se evoca, nos llega a los oídos la suave voz de José Afonso y su Grandôla, Vila Morena . Pero en realidad hay pocas revueltas populares que tengan una banda sonora tan claramente asociada a la causa, quizás La Marsellesa francesa o el Bela Ciao de los partisanos italianos.

\r\n

Hoy, una marea revolucionaria inunda el mundo árabe, donde miles de personas reclaman el fin de las dictaduras. Los jóvenes han encontrado en las redes sociales una vía por donde escapar a la censura, organizarse y lanzar su mensaje de cambio y libertad. Un mensaje que en ocasiones llega en forma de canciones, verdaderos himnos de esta primavera árabe : parece que cada revolución tiene su propia melodía, desde Túnez hasta Egipto, Libia y ahora Siria.

\r\n

Fue el rapero El Général quien en enero de 2011 lanzó su grito amargo contra el entonces presidente de Túnez, Ben Ali. Su canción, ‘Jefe de Estado’, se dirige directamente al “señor Presidente”, a quien le pide explicaciones por permitir que en todavía haya “gente que muere de hambre y que quiere trabajar para vivir”. Hamad Ben Aoun lanzaba su mensaje desde un sótano y con la cara escondida por la visera de una gorra. El dictador todavía no había caído y el mundo árabe seguía viviendo un largo invierno. Pero esta fue la primera canción que logró convertirse en himno de los revolucionarios, su mensaje fue secundado por miles de jóvenes, que también querían pedir explicaciones al “señor Presidente”. El General fue detenido por su rap subversivo, pero ya era demasiado tarde: la chispa del cambio ya había incendiado el país.

\r\n

Muy distinta es Sout Al Horeya , La Voz de la Libertad, himno egipcio durante los 18 días de pulso entre la calle y Hosni Mubarak . La canción irradia optimismo y fuerza. “En cada calle de mi país la voz de la libertad nos está llamado”, cantan jóvenes, mujeres y niños sonrientes que sostienen pancartas y hacen el signo de la victoria en la mítica plaza Tahrir de El Cairo. Esta pegadiza melodía rock fue compuesta en pleno levantamiento por Amir Eid y Hany Adel, guitarristas y voces de los populares grupos Cairokee y West el Balad.

\r\n

Los rebeldes libios también tienen su propio himno; ‘Seguiremos aquí’, una melancólica canción compuesta por Adel Mashati, un médico anestesista de Bengasi, el principal bastión de la oposición contra Muamar Al Gadafi. Mashati la escribió en 2005 y en ella narra la vida bajo el yugo del dictador: “Nos olvidamos de sonreír. No éramos personas y mucho menos ciudadanos, sino sujetos a exterminar, sometidos a la lógica de una locura, a la revolución de las masas, el atroz experimento de Gadafi, el Estado sin Estado, la persecución policial, el aislamiento del mundo”. A pesar del ritmo lento y la letra triste, es inevitable advertir un profundo sentimiento de resistencia en la melodía.ç

\r\n

Otro rap corre estos días por Siria , donde el régimen de Bashar el Asad reprime a sangre y fuego los levantamientos populares que exigen democracia. ‘Bayan Ra2am Wa7ed’ recupera el tono desafiante y lleno de rabia del tunecino El Général pero sobrepasa el mensaje de este al hablar de la lucha del pueblo sirio y no sólo denunciar la opresión: “Queremos hacer nuestros sueños realidad incluso si el precio es la sangre”. El vídeo colgado en YouTube muestra imágenes del presidente Asad y del parlamento sirio entremezcladas con las de la sangre de las víctimas de la represión.

\r\n

Quien sabe si estas canciones perdurarán en la memoria de los que hoy hacen la revolución o quedarán arrinconadas en el olvido, pero sus potentes mensajes son hoy un acicate para los jóvenes árabes, protagonistas del terremoto por la democracia que vive toda la región. Son su propia L’Estaca o su The times are a-changing , música compuesta para remover conciencias y pasar a la acción.
